This illustration by Van Allsburg is featured on the cover of The Big Book of Our Planet, an anthology of over 40 children's book authors and illustrators addressing human impact on the environment. Although published in 1993, the book's message---"we can work with our planet, not against it"---is more relevant today than ever.Van Allsburg was recognized as the 2013 Carle Honors Artist. His work has been featured in The Carle's exhibitions The Mysteries of Chris Van Allsburg (2004), Iconic Images: 10 Years of Collecting for The Carle (2012), and Eighty Years of Caldecott Books (2017).
